Ziff Davis Media Inc, the leading special interest technology media company, today announced it has completed the acquisition of DeviceForge LLC, a privately-held vertical online b-to-b publishing company headquartered in Palo Alto, California. The transaction enables Ziff Davis to expand its already extensive portfolio of vertical product and information websites to its enterprise-level technology customers.
The DeviceForge sites are among the leading content destinations for application developers, business executives, and technologists who create the future of consumer and business electronics products, which increasingly rely on embedded software such as Linux or Windows. DeviceForge has also built strong relationships with the device hardware and software technology community and many of DeviceForge's customers are leading enterprise-level technology companies including Microsoft, IBM, and Intel.
“Technology professionals gravitate toward vertical, topic-focused Web sites that deliver the news and product information they need, and smart marketers leverage these resources to increase their reach to targeted audiences,” said Jason Young, President, Ziff Davis Internet and Consumer Technology Group. “DeviceForge adds tremendous value for our users, and is a great complement to our technology news and vertical market websites in reaching this important and growing audience of technology visionaries and early adopters.”
Under terms of the agreement Ziff Davis Media will purchase several vertical technology and information websites including LinuxDevices.com, WindowsForDevices.com, DeviceForge.com, and DesktopLinux.com. With this suite of popular, news driven websites, Ziff Davis Media will be able to track the latest software and hardware technologies, products, trends, and issues relating to the development of next-generation intelligent, connected devices and embedded systems. Topics covered include embedded software, chips, boards, and systems, as well as applicable interface technologies and protocols.
“We're excited to join Ziff Davis's Internet Group and become a part of their rapidly growing vertical network of best-practice sites serving the professional and enthusiast tech communities. With this new relationship DeviceForge plans to further increase its already solid commitment to delivering breaking news, analysis and product coverage of the highest quality covering the devices market,” said Rick Lehrbaum, President of DeviceForge.
“An estimated 95 percent of all microprocessors power products like mobile phones, consumer entertainment gadgets, cars, and ATM machines, making device technology one of the hottest growth markets,” said Stephen Balacco, Embedded Systems Software Analyst, Venture Development Corporation (VDC). “As devices have become increasingly powerful, momentum has shifted toward embedding sophisticated operating systems, an area in which LinuxDevices and WindowsForDevices are leading information resources.”
