Trolltech has completed a $6.7 million round of Series B financing led by Index Ventures, with participation from previous investors Teknoinvest and Northzone. The funding will be used to market Trolltech's embedded Linux and cross-platform desktop applications globally, the company says.

Trolltech opened an office in Beijing last month, noting that six design houses in China are building phones based on Trolltech's Qtopia Phone Edition. The company says Qtopia has over 60 customers, and that 20 phones based on QPE will reach market in 2005.

Trolltech CEO Haavard Nord said, “This funding will help us expand quickly while continuing to support the open source community.”

Index Ventures co-founder Neil Rimer, who will join Trolltech's board of directors, said, “Trolltech is a Linux pioneer and a model 'second-generation' open source company, with a profitable business model and proven technology that targets two of the hottest markets for Linux. With 11 years of continuous growth behind it, Trolltech has demonstrated its ability to innovate and delight its customers, and we look forward to helping it attain an even more significant market position.”
