Lanner announced a fanless industrial PC that includes dual Ethernet ports, digital I/O, six serial ports, and dual video outputs. The LEC-2110 is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom D525 processor, accepts up to 4GB of RAM, has a CompactFlash slot, and is available with either a PCI or PCI Express expansion slot.
Lanner's "LEC" series of fanless industrial PCs are common visitors to LinuxDevices.com (most recently in the form of the Intel Core-powered LEC-2220), but this one was heralded by a Dec. 16 device proclaiming it to be a next generation, "the vanguard of the new approach of Lanner's applied computing unit." Wondering what this could possibly mean, we found that it merely refers to the device's "multiple expansion options."

Indeed, the LEC-2110 is available in an "E" model with a PCI Express expansion slot, and in a "P" model with a PCI expansion slot. Both versions also have a Mini PCI slot and a SIM card reader, allowing installation of a Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) module or 3G cellular modem.
With respect, none of that is exactly revolutionary. Nor is the LEC-2110's use of the dual-core, 1.8GHz Intel Atom D525 processor and ICH8M I/O controller.
Still, a little hyperbole doesn't detract from the LEC-2110's inherent usefulness. In addition to the expansion slots mentioned above, the device has a Type I/II CompactFlash slot, a 2.5-inch bay for SATA storage devices, and a SODIMM slot that accepts up to 4GB of RAM, according to Lanner.

Apart from that, the LEC-2110's rear panel (seen at left above) has both VGA and DVI-D video outputs and a generous array of serial ports. Two DB9 connectors serve up RS232 and RS232/422/485 ports, while a terminal block connector offers up four more (three RS232 and one RS232/422/485), Lanner says.
The front panel, meanwhile, provides six USB 2.0 ports, two gigabit Ethernet ports, and audio (mic in, line out). It is also said to feature a DB9 connector delivering four digital inputs and four digital outputs.
Lanner says the LEC-2110 operates via input voltages ranging from 9 to 30VDC, and in temperatures ranging from 23 to 113 deg. F. An available extended-temperature variant is rated for operation from 14 to 131 deg. F, but Lanner adds that in its testing, this version actually survived 72 hours of full-load use at 158 deg. F without damage, and was bootable after 24 hours of being frozen at -4 deg. F.
