SONICblue describes the ProGear (originally developed by Frontpath, Inc.) as “a wireless portable information appliance targeted to vertical market segments”. The ProGear uses Embedded Linux as its internal operating system, includes a 10.4″ TFT display, and obtains its user input via either a virtual keyboard or handwriting recognition on its touchscreen. Axis Communications has introduced a new model of its intelligent Network Camera, the Model 2120. With its built-in 100 MHz RISC microprocessor running an embedded Linux operating system, and its Ethernet connection, the device can serve as an intelligent tool for remote monitoring of live video via either an intranet or the Internet. High-speed synchronous driver source released to GPL

RedBoot — an open source boot/debug environment

RedBoot is a new embedded system debug/bootstrap environment from Red Hat. It is designed to replace the existing debug/boot tools CygMon and GDB stubs. SuSE gets highest score in FHS compatibility test

(press release) — SuSE Linux 7.0 passed 233 of the 243 tests in the Linux Standards Board's Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (LSB-FHS2.1-1) test. SuSE's Distribution surpassed Red Hat in compliance by 10 tests, Caldera by 29, Mandrake by 33, and TurboLinux by 14, making SuSE Linux 7.0 the most standards-compliant Linux distribution tested. North Carolina State Univ standardizes on open source software
